Brixton Academy 16 April, 2003
Forward three years from the Bloodhound Gang. Massive Attack, not long before this, had a fearsome reputation as one of the best live acts in the UK. This gig was a disappointment, though. It was a tour for their fourth studio album, 100th Window, and the gig wasn’t helped by the fact that the album isn’t jaw-droppingly good in the way that their first two or three albums are.
What I mainly remember is the band setting up Unfinished Sympathy and then leaving the stage while somebody sang the lead vocal, and realising that because this person wasn’t Shara Nelson, there was nobody on the stage who’d actually made the original song.
